John 4:14 “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
There was an advertisement years ago that proclaimed a soft drink to be ‘the real thing’. The thirty second spots often displayed young people with big smiles having the time of their lives. Nothing could have been better than to pop the top of that drink and allow the chilled refreshment to invigorate them for more fun and games.
The truth is that the placebo affects ultimately didn’t bring with it a lasting satisfaction. Just like the alcoholic beverages or ‘leisure drugs’ of ours and many other societies leave the user empty and in need of another ‘jolt’.
There is One though that always satisfies and fulfills. Each time this ‘One’ is administered ‘It’ is better than before! Cool, refreshing, satisfying, and fulfilling. What is this? Of course, ‘It’ is Jesus Christ!
No one and nothing can match this soon coming King. He alone holds the keys to death, hell, and the grave. He reigns in righteousness, and imputes such, coupled with great mercy and grace. He forgives and restores the downtrodden and destitute. He has promised to set up and abode within the hearts of the ones that will only receive Him; to become a place of refuge, a cleft for the embattled soul.
He brings peace, joy, and love to weary weathered humanity and makes sense of our being.
What can He do for you? He has already done it! At a place called Calvary more than two-thousand years ago He stretched out His arms and said, “it is finished”. In other words, all you ever need and want are completed in and through Him.
As the day approaches, and our time is shortened, I have to ask, “Will you receive this refreshing? Or will you continue seeking that which is not lasting, a fleeting feel good.” Talk to Jesus today!
