Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
I guess there are plenty of reasons why someone would be anxious today. Wars and rumors of wars are noised abroad almost daily. The use of anxiety medication is about the same for the church as it is in the world and it should not be that way. We have a faithful witness in Christ who gave us great promises of peace and joy! We have been given the blessing of life and life more abundantly in Christ Jesus which encompasses everything needed to thrive in Him. The problem seems to be that we are so willing to look at the calamity and chaos in the world, ignoring the beauty and the shear glory of His presence in it. We get drawn into a negative spiral and begin our journey into deception.
Jesus didn’t say life would be easy, He said He would never leave us nor forsake us! I believe Him! I also believe that He is able to do that which He said. He said it that settles it! Instead of looking at the works of the adversary, let’s look at what we have been taught. Philippians 4: 4 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” There sure is plenty to rejoice about! Instead of reaching for medication, which is the way of the world, reach up to the Lord, read His word and place your trust in Him and His gift of peace, joy and love. He promises that if you would just adjust your vision you and I would have a better day! Being anxious for nothing means trusting the plan, purpose, and sovereignty of God as His purposes are fulfilled in all circumstances. It also means recognizing that all circumstances can be used by God for His glory and praise.
Submit yourself to Christ a little more deeply. Philippians 4: 8-9 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Adjust your vision and have a great day in the Lord!
