John 3: 16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Christmas time is always a special season for me. Coming from Ohio I remember the snowy days and the bright lights on the houses celebrating the birth of the King. Family would gather laugh and cut up as mom would be expertly moving about the kitchen preparing treats we all count as holiday blessings. Dad would have the old Christmas music on playing Bing Crosby and Dean Martin or another ‘old guy!’ Our faces would light up as one by one our families burst through the door, arms filled with presents and desserts.
We would attend service at our church and the pastor would teach us about our new born King…Jesus. The fellowship was wonderful. As I grew up I discovered that Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th as we had always celebrated. Some say He was born in the Spring while others said He was born in the Autumn. Others taught that He was born in a makeshift cradle while others say He had no cradle at all. As I began studying the Bible for myself I discovered that when the wise men came to visit, He was nearly two years old and living in a home! A far cry from the old Charlie Brown Christmas, huh!? Let me tell you what I believe; I don’t care if He was born in the Spring or Autumn. I only care that He was born!
His taking on the cloak of humanity and forsaking His heavenly riches and position was for you and I. When I couldn’t get to where He was, He came to me! He walked among us and taught us how to love. He taught us how to live our lives to the fullest; and, He taught us how to overcome evil. He came to die so we might live. He paid the debt burden that was placed upon our backs through sin. Our debt has been satisfied by His sacrifice!
No greater love than the love of the One sacrificing their life to save ours. Our Jesus did just that. He provided a way when there was no way. He did the impossible because He alone is God. Think of it…God came in the flesh to teach us how to live victoriously no matter the circumstance! He dwelled and fellowshipped with us and still does. Reach out to Him today with your heart full of faith. He will surely fill you with His love.
