II Timothy 3: 1-5 “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”
The first verse also is translated as times of dangerous opportunities and we sure have that! The nation is filled with those that are foreign to our way of life and work tirelessly to change it. What happens if they succeed and turn our country into the same type of country they left? Will they then leave for another?
Social media completely exposes the heart and soul of the people that utilize it. So many photos of themselves to get the one that will show them in their best ‘light’ while desiring something or someone to make their life worthwhile and fulfilled. Living the life of excess and having those things of life that fleetingly brings a happiness so longed for? Conceited and unconvinced. Boastful and deeply depressed; lovers of money and unconcerned about how they get it as long as they get it.
There are those that turn against their ‘parents’ having no respect or gratefulness for the provision given; living without self-control only the blatant disregard for those that would practice restraint. Yes, we are at the point in history that this passage can be seen in its fullest form. Even to the point of everyone giving praise and glory to God for the touchdown, success, new movie etc; everything except the payment of sin and the adherence to repentance.
We cannot live anyway we desire and say we are saved, nor mouth the words someone tells us to and receive forgiveness. Salvation comes to those that have ears to hear and eyes to see the goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ and repent…turning away from wickedness and surrendering to His Lordship.
There is only one cure for the ills of today and that is the cross of Calvary and the atoning blood of Jesus. Yes He paid the debt so we could live with and for Him. Not so we could continue as though His sacrifice means nothing. We all will give account for our lives. I am asking you right now to think. The world’s richest and wisest man said this after acquiring everything a man could acquire, “Vanity of vanities. All is vanity.” King Solomon saw that the things of this world are an empty pursuit. Nothing holds weight. Not now and surely not in eternity. The King of Glory will judge righteously.
How will you stand before Him? Act while there is still time for you.
