2 Kings 6: 24 & 25 “And afterwards it happened that Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army and went up and laid siege to Samaria. 25 And there was a great famine in Samaria. And behold! They were laying siege to it until the head of an ass was at eighty silver pieces, and a fourth of a cab of dove’s dung at five silver pieces.”
Sadly, today in religious circles around the world there are those that are aggressively living off an experience from the past. Mostly because, while the experience was probably a powerful experience from God that changed them, it was meant to lead and feed for that period. They have chosen to be steadfast at something that was to propel them to a new pasture with new depth. How complacent we become when God has been so good to us! Just like the story above, they were feeding off assess heads (stubbornness) and Dove’s dung (past anointing or Presence/manifestation of God).
Donkeys are very head strong and refuse to change. Yes, we are to commit and love the work of the Holy Spirit, but we also need to understand that we are on a pilgrimage, a journey and complacency is something that is worked against us!
Doves represent the Holy Spirit the third person of the Trinity. He is the One that moves in power when the Father speaks. God spoke and said, “Let there be light…” and there was! When God moves on our lives, He does so in purpose. Not just to produce a sign and wonder but to gently nudge us to a close place in Him. It is like walking hand in hand with our earthly father and trying to keep up with his huge strides! God is continually moving us to a place of love through servanthood. We simply cannot and must not stand in one place or we will find ourselves in solitude only to look around and wonder where Jesus is!
We are to walk on delighting in the wonderful experience God has given expressing our love and devotion through acts of being a faithful witness; ever looking for the next manifestation of His presence in our lives. Standing still in the wonderment and marvel could cause us to live off the residue of what has been instead of dwelling in what He is doing now. Dove’s dung eaten – Dove represents the Holy Spirit – dung is the residue of the Holy Spirit…we are commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit!
People in bondage have a hard time believing the promises of God! “Why sit we here till we die? Walk into the enemy’s camp and take back what was stolen!” 1 John 4:4 “Little children, you are of God and have overcome them, because He in you is greater than he in the world.”
Step out further and further in faith and watch the glory of God!
