Philippians 2:7-8 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Isaiah 53: 2 “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”
Have you ever stopped to think what Jesus must think of “the Church” today? I believe that if Apostle Paul were here with us, we would be getting a letter! How did we arrive where we are? Where are we? I cannot find us in scripture! When asking for a testimony, we don’t have one. Instead of going into the highways and byways to seek the lost, we expect them to magically come to “our church” and get saved! Then, after we have waited for them long enough, we murmur and complain that our church isn’t right and begin looking for another.
We search – I should say we shop for churches that will meet our fleshly needs with a little bit of Spiritual – but not too much – we don’t want to get weird. We don’t want to give or IF we do it is minimal because, “God don’t need our money!” However, we sure do need God to supply all our needs according to His riches and glory…right!? The church is expected to survive and thrive without much needed finances because we are too spiritual for such things…besides God will take care of it. Our sermons have no fervor or are embellished to the point of no understanding because of the hacking and coughing! “Sounds like a breathing treatment is needed Ethel!” Our music is too loud, too old, oh no not that old red hymnal again, gee!
What spell are we under? There’s a devil loose! We follow celebrity preachers and superstar ‘Worship’ leaders. Our songs express our needs rather than lift the God that gave His only Son for our sins. Our church grows because of well thought of marketing plans and gimmicks to fill the seats and conviction is yesterday’s news. Repentance is all but gone and my life is better now with my Life Coach.
It’s time to get an understanding of why Jesus bled, died and rose again…He paid the sin debt! We are the church and it is our responsibility to learn of Him for His way is easy and His yoke is light! But I imagine that is bondage. Will we open our eyes and focus upon Christ again?
This is not a blanket rebuke of the church of Jesus Christ. He has a people! Are you one? Just wondering.
