Why So Downcast?

Philippians 4:6-7 LEB “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

There have been too many times in my 30 plus years of ministry that I witness someone coming to the altar with a heavy weight around their necks desiring to hand the burden to the Lord. After a period of time there, they get up and pick that burden backup and walk back to where they have been seated burdened once more. My question is this: Do we really trust God with our lives? We can answer to the affirmative with our mouths however our actions speak ever so loudly to the contrary!

When we trust the bus driver we sit back and let him drive. When we trust the pilot, even if we are pensive, we sit and take the journey. How much more should we be able to trust our Lord to fulfill His many promises? If we find it difficult to trust our Lord Jesus with small details of our lives, how can we possibly trust Him for our eternity?

Yes we have troubles and tribulations in this life however, we press in to the Lord through applying ourselves to reading His word, attending worship, and prayer. There is no substitute to these three majors. They are essential to grasping and taking hold of the many promises our Lord gave to His followers/believers. Matthew 6:33 LEB “But seek first his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Some will teach that all we have to do is believe; and. while that is true, it is also true that those that have placed their trust in Him for eternity will also engage in the practice of living and modeling Christ to the world…walking in His footsteps!

This same chapter of Matthew also records the words of Christ to ensure that we are taken care of. It may not be what we want right now but if we are sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit we will find the contentment the Apostle Paul so often spoke about along with a peace that passes the natural mind.

Give your problems and requests to the Lord and trust Him in His timing, answer, and provisions. He knows the very hairs on your head and He knows your biggest fears and worries. He will surely take care of you. In that, you can trust!
